Bringing Rescue Into Real Estate

About The Episode

Kelcey grew up with a Mom who was really into fostering and rescuing, so that practice was embedded in her actions from a young age. Her family would always have 4-6 dogs in the home, a mix of rescues and fosters. In particular, they all loved German short-haired pointers.

After going to college in New York City, Kelcey stayed afterward and got her first dog at 23 years old. She came across a rescue group, Paws4Survival, who would rescue dogs from Puerto Rico and bring them to NYC. While Kelcey wanted to foster and told herself she wouldn’t get the first dog she met, that still ended up happening. So her first foster became her first rescue with Stella, and then she kept on fostering after. Later, she got a second dog, Rosie, and has fostered dozens of dogs over the years.

It wasn’t only in her personal life that she was trying to make a difference. In her career, she was working as a Real Estate agent. She started to bring dogs up for adoption to certain open listings when she was meeting with clients (confirming with them first in advance), and it turned out to be a great idea on many levels. For one, with the clients it made them have a happier experience of viewing the listing (whether they took it or not), made them think more about adopting a dog (whether that specific one or not), and it helped the dogs themselves with socialization in traveling, seeing new places, and meeting new people.

About The Guest - Kelcey Otten

As a Real Estate agent, Kelcey Otten had the great idea of bringing dogs up for adoption to her open listings (with her clients permission in advance, of course). Ever since she was young, Kelcey was exposed to the rescue and foster world through her mother and has now taken that torch and initiative on her own. She also has two rescues of her own, Stella and Rosie, and has fostered many others.
